Litgrid said a team of Svenska Kraftnat, the Swedish TSO, and Hitachi ABB Power Grids, the manufacturer, had identified the failure, which occurred in the Nybro converter station at around 1 a.m., and were working to fix it.
The high-voltage direct current connection last malfunctioned in June, for the first time since 2018. The failure then occurred in an underground cable joint about 30 kilometers from the Nybro substation.
According to Litgrid, Lithuania imported 3.6 TWh of electricity via NordBalt between January and September 2020, accounting for 43% of its total power imports.
The 550-million-euro NordBalt project was carried out by Litgrid and Svenska Kraftnat. The 450-kilometer power link was launched in February 2016.
