From January 4, both pupils and teachers in schools will have to wear face masks both during lessons and outside the teaching process, the government decided last night, writes LETA.

The government also decided that 1st-4th grade students would still be able to continue their studies in person, although Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) had encouraged them to be sent home from next week for extended winter holidays, which will be compensated in the summer. In turn, for 5th and 6th grade students, studies will take place remotely from December 7, as all senior students are already doing.

In person to person classes, the study process will be allowed to continue only in kindergartens and grades 1 to 4. Schools will still have to provide three square meters per pupil. From December 3, those working in kindergartens will have to wear face masks at all times.

The process of higher education, vocational education and adult vocational education, as well as non-formal education, will only be possible remotely. On the other hand, practical skills that cannot be acquired remotely may be acquired in person only individually - one teacher with one student.

The practical parts of interest education will be able to take place in person only individually. Rehearsal by choirs and wind ensembles are not allowed in person.

From December 3, on-site indoor sports trainings may only take place for Latvian adult national team members, Olympic team members and Paralympic team athletes, as well as adult professional athletes of team sports of international and top league teams.

Other indoor trainings may only take place individually or in pairs with a coach, while group trainings for up to ten people may only take place outdoors. Tents or other temporary structures, if they have walls, are also perceived as indoor, but covered areas without walls are considered to be outdoor.
