She said that starting January 22, providers of ride-hailing services whose websites and mobile apps can be used to call a taxi and pay for the ride must be registered with the Road Transport Administration. Those who have not registered, are not allowed to provide their services in Latvia.

The Road Transport Administration and supervisory authorities have found that the mobile app Yandex Taxi and the website taxi.yandex.lv continue to operate without registration, which is why the Road Transport Administration has asked all electronic services providers to block them.

The electronic services providers are expected to block Yandex Taxi in the next few days. The ride-hailing service will be able to resume operations as soon as it has registered with the Road Transport Administration, which is also considering blocking the websites and mobile apps of several other unregistered services providers.

So far, only Estonia's Bolt Technology, the provider of Bolt ride-hailing service, has registered with the Latvian Road Transport Administration.
