The Lithuanian Government plans to tap its reserve for 100,000 euros that will be allocated for humanitarian aid to Italy and Spain, the worst-hit European Union (EU) countries by the coronavirus, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has announced on Tuesday, writes LETA/BNS.

The funds would be spent on medical supplies and breathing apparatus, he said.
“I believe that Lithuania’s people will understand and support this decision. When fighting to prevent loss of human life, solidarity with our partners in Europe and elsewhere is vital,” Skvernelis said in a Facebook post.
“This money will be spent on the purchase of necessities, such as face shields, respirators as well as medical equipment used to maintain respiratory function. It’s highly symbolic and important that all these supplies are made in Lithuania,” he added.
Spain has registered 140,500 confirmed coronavirus cases and nearly 13,800 deaths, and Italy – 132,500 confirmed cases and 16,500 deaths.
