Last night, Latvian basketball club ''VEF Riga'' defeated French basketball club ''Gravelines'' 69:62 in a ULEB Eurocup match to stay alive in the hunt for a place in the tournament's quarterfinals, informs LETA.

Kaspars Berzins was the highest scorer for ''VEF Riga'' with 19 points and six assists, with Sandis Valters adding 15 points and Gatis Jahovics scoring 11.

On the other hand, Juby Johnson was the highest scorer for ''Gravelines'' with 12 points.

In the other group match on Tuesday evening, Spanish basketball club ''Valencia Basket'' defeated Czech basketball club Nymburk CEZ 73:72.

''VEF Riga'' is currently in third place in Group I with two wins and two losses.

The Latvian club will play its next group match on February 21 at CEZ.

As reported, ''VEF Riga'' finished in second place in its group in the tournament's first group stage to advance to the ''Top 16''.

The ''Top 16'' is made up of four groups of four. Each team in each of the groups will play each other twice – once at home and once on the road. The two best team in each of the four groups will qualify for the tournament's quarterfinals.

"VEF Riga" did not get past the first group stage in last season's ULEB Eurocup.
