''VEF Riga'' takes down ''Zalgiris'' in VTB United League

In VTB United League action yesterday, Latvian basketball club ''VEF Riga'' defeated Lithuanian powerhouse Kaunas ''Zalgiris'' 88:79, informs LETA.
The highest scorer for the Latvian club was Curtis Millage with 20 points, followed by Dairis Bertans with 18 points and Sandis Valters with 13 points.
On the other hand, Ty Lawson was the highest scorer for ''Zalgiris'' with 17 points.
With the win, ''VEF Riga'' moves up to fifth place (out of nine teams) in Group A with two wins and two losses, whilst Zalgiris drops to sixth with two wins and three losses.
''VEF Riga'' will play its next VTB League match on Saturday on the road against Russian basketball club ''Nizhny Novgorod''.
As reported, each club in the league's both groups (A and B) will play each other twice – once at home and once on the road. The groups' winners will automatically qualify for the tournament's final four, whilst the second, third and fourth place finishers will play in the quarterfinals.
LETA also reported, last season, "VEF Riga" finished the group stage in fifth place and did not qualify for the league's playoffs.
