Argentine Guillermo Canas has become the new coach of Latvian tennis player Ernests Gulbis, according to the tennis portal ''tennis.com''.

Canas began working with the Latvian at this year's Wimbledon and also trained him during the mid-summer break, writes LETA.

Gulbis has been without a coach since this past April, when another Argentine Hernan Gumy was forced to quit due to family reasons.

As reported, Latvia's top ranked tennis player Gulbis defeated Xavier Malisse (Belgium) 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 in the first round of Los Angeles "ATP World Tour 250" tournament, and later he won Daniel Kosakowski from USA. In quarterfinals Gulbis will play against the second-seed Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina).

At the moment, Gulbis is ranked 84th in the ATP rankings, however, he was ranked 21st just this past February.
