41-year-old Latvian biathlon legend Ilmars Bricis has decided to end his professional career, according to the local sports portal ''Sporta Avize+''.

Bricis has accepted an offer to become the head coach of the Lithuanian women's biathlon team.

In an interview, Bricis admitted that the main reason for his retirement is financial, writes LETA.

''The Latvian Biathlon Federation promised to ensure me financing of LVL 120 per month and 1,000 bullets, which is only enough for about seven practice sessions,'' Bricis told the sports portal. ''The Latvian team has basically been liquidated.''

However, Bricis did allow the possibility that he could participate in the team relay in one of next season's World Cup stages.

In his career, Bricis won two bronze medals at the World Championships, the last one being in 2005.
