"Musiqq" duo to represent Latvia, Getter Jaani – Estonia at "Eurovision 2011"
Print versionThe "Eurovision 2011" national final was triumphant for the popular boys' duo "Musiqq" and their song "Angel In Disguise" in Latvia, which will compete in this spring's international contest in Germany, writes LETA.
In the national final last night in Ventspils, the runner up was vocalist Lauris Reiniks' "Banjo Laura", but the group "Pienenu vins", and its number "You Are", was third. A total of 11 songs competed.
winner of the Estonian Song 2011 contest, Estonia’s entry for the Eurovision contest in Düsseldorf, Germany this year is "Rockefeller Street", performed by young singer Getter Jaani and written by veteran songwriter and Eurovision participant Sven Lõhmus, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.
This year the contest has been different than in earlier years since first, 20 semi-finalists were elected who competed for the 10 places in finals that took place on Saturday in the Nokia concert hall in Tallinn which was broadcast live by ETV. Out of the 10 finalists, the jury and people in phone voting selected two: "I Wanna Meet Bob Dylan" by Outloudz and "Rockefeller Street" performed by Getter Jaani. The people then chose Getter Jaani with 62% votes versus 38% of Outloudz.
Estonia’s most successful Eurovision year was 2001 when “Everybody” by Dave Benton, Tanel Padar and 2XL won the contest in Denmark. Last year’s Estonian entry, Malcolm Lincoln with "Siren" did not get to the finals.
