The Ministry of Culture has decided not to seek a new managing director for Riga's Daile (Art) Theater, instead appointing acting director, the company's technical director of many years, Andris Vitols, in the post.

The Ministry of Culture had ousted Managing Director Aivars Linis on October 26 last year due to criminal charges against him and the subsequent security measure restricting him from entering the theater, informs LETA.

The announcement of Vitols' appointment was made at a press conference today by Culture Minister Ints Dalderis. Vitols himself commented that he has accepted the job because he has become convinced of the artistic potential and the excellent teamwork at Daile during his period as acting director.

Vitols underlined that the company – celebrating 90 years next season, must now find an artistic director – a director, playwright or artist, but definitely "a vibrant personality."
