Director Maris Martinsons' drama "Loss" (Nevajadzigie laudis) took home the top prize last night at the "Lielais Kristaps 2009" National Film Festival Awards as best full-length motion picture, writes LETA.

Awards were presented in 22 categories, but the jury decided not to nominate anyone this year as "Best Actor" and "Best Actress". Winning for supporting roles were Inara Slucka for "Defenders of Riga" (Rigas sargi) and Rolands Zagorskis for "The Hunt" (Medibas).

The best short feature film was Ivars Tontegode's "Obsession" (Apsestiba), the best documentary – Ivars Zviedris' "Ebb Tide" (Begums), and the best documentary short – Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsena's "Bacon, Butter and My Mom" (Bekons, sviests un mana Mamma).

Art director/special effects master Vikors Sildknehts (born 1917) was honored for lifetime achievement in Latvian cinema.
