Latvian national film festival "Lielais Kristaps" gets under way

Latvian national film festival "Lielais Kristaps" started on September 29; cinema "Riga" and the Riga Film Museum will be the principal venues, however, various festival's events will take place also elsewhere in Latvia, the National Film Center's spokeswoman Zigita Saulite informed LETA.

 

Films selected for the "Lielais Kristaps" awards competition, will be screened at the large theater of the cinema "Riga" starting 4 p.m. today; Riga Film Museum in its turn will demonstrate "Panorama Selection" films starting from 3 p.m. today.

 

On the first day of the festival, cinema "Riga" will screen the feature film "Defenders of Riga", animated films "Sister and Brother" and "Did You Say Something?" and the family feature "Little Robbers".

 

Riga Film Museum in its turn will present today two documentaries by Dzintra Geka: "... and Igarka, Hope and Butterfly", "Agapitova and the Rescued", as well as director Sandris Jura's documentary "On The Way to Freedom".

 

The official opening of the festival "Lielais Kristaps" will take place at 6 p.m. at the cinema "Riga", with opening speeches, unveiling of three thematic exhibitions and screening of the documentary "Ebb Tide" by Ivars Zviedris. The documentary "Ebb Tide" tells about Latvian guest workers in Ireland – a topical theme and reflection of today's reality.

 

The festival will run until October 4 and, along with film screenings, will feature a comprehensive events program.
