Sekacis – new Latvian ambassador to Iceland
Print versionYesterday, Latvian Ambassador Andris Sekacis submitted his credentials to the President of Iceland Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, thus officially becoming Latvia's ambassador to Iceland, reports LETA.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed bilateral political and economic relations, and agreed to continue to maintain close cooperation in the future, which is especially important in the current economic crisis.
The Icelandic president also reminisced of his positive impression of Latvia during a state visit in 1998, and expressed much interest in current affairs in the Baltic States.
During an accreditation visit at Iceland's Foreign Ministry, the two sides discussed current economic and security issues, as well as Iceland's possible European Union membership.
Sekacis resides in the Norwegian capital city of Oslo.
