Labor exchange "opened" in Vilnius Bernardinai church

BC, Vilnius, 24.02.2009.Print version

Priests of Vilnius Bernardinai church offer Vilnius residents, who have lost their jobs, and Vilnius businessmen, who search for employees, to exchange information.

During the Mass celebrated on last Sunday, the Franciscan monks encouraged these parishioners to fill in forms. The clergy expects to establish a kind of a labor exchange in the church, reports ELTA.

The first people to fill in the forms was a flight attendant of the insolvent airline company flyLAL-Lithuanian Airlines, real estate and construction products managers and a builder.

Two job proposals were submitted at the "labor exchange" established by the Franciscan monks already after the first Mass. The monks intend to place job advertisements in the newspaper of the parish as well as on the internet. The action will last as long as there are jobseekers.

"I know that there are a lot of businessmen, high ranking officials in our parish. So we have decided to print out these forms," Arunas Peskaitis, priest of Bernardinai church told the supplement Sostine of the daily Lietuvos Rytas.

The priest is convinced that there are always some jobs, the problem is that jobseekers and employers simply do not meet. In Peskaitis" opinion, it is a Christian duty to help to find a job.
