Skudra was confirmed as the Dinamo head coach following a
joint meeting of the club's council and board.
Skudra has been tasked with preparing the Dinamo's plan for
the new season as well as informing the club about his potential assistants and
players.
Last season, the 47-year-old Skudra was the head coach of
the KHL club Chelyabinsk Traktor for seven months. He was released last
November.
Before that, Skudra coached Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo, helping
the club advance to the KHL playoffs for five straight seasons.
Before retiring from professional sports, Skudra was a
goaltender for the NHL clubs Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins
and Vancouver Canucks, as well as the Russian clubs Moscow CSKA, Kazan Ak Bars,
Novokuznetsk Metallurg, and Voskresensk Khimik.
The next KHL season will begin in just one-and-a-half months,
and the Riga club has so far signed only five players.
As reported, Dinamo finished in second-to-last place in the
KHL last season with 41 points from 62 matches.
