The Riga Municipal Police has detained an Australian who had attacked a pedicab driver due to poor quality cocaine, LETA learned from the police.
Last Sunday, employees of the police video surveillance center noticed several men fighting. After one of the man got pepper spray in the face, the police patrol was sent to the site.
When the police arrived, the conflict had faded away, but an Australian citizen came up to the police, complaining that he got pepper spray in the face from a pedicab driver. He said that the pedicab driver sprayed him after the Australian attempted to draw the driver into a fight.
The foreigner said that the reason for the conflict had been poor quality cocaine he had bought from another pedicab driver. As he did not find the particular driver, he decided to take his revenge with another driver, representing this business. The Australian also had a package with white powdered substance with him.
The tourist was taken to the police and two administrative offence procedures on storage and use of drugs were launched against him. The punishment in the cases will depend on whether the tourist had been under the influence of drugs and whether the white substance contains drugs.
The police is also looking for the possible drug dealer.
