Daugavins also out; Latvia's WC roster announced

One of Latvia's potential leaders Kaspars Daugavins has been ruled out from this year's Ice Hockey World Championships due to an ankle injury, Latvian Ice Hockey Federation press secretary Edgars Gaross told LETA.


Daugavins suffered the injury during a recent practice session. He attempted to take the ice today, but left after several minutes. Media outlets report that it will take about six weeks for Daugavins to be fully healed.


Daugavins also missed last year's World Championships due to injury.


Daugavins has played in nine World Championships and two Olympic Games.


The head coach of the Latvian national men's ice hockey team announced those players who will be travelling to Slovakia for this year's World Championships.


They are, goaltenders - Elvis Merzlikins, Kristers Gudlevskis and Gustavs Davis Grigals.


Defensemen - Uvis Balinskis, Kristaps Zile, Kristaps Sotnieks, Ralfs Freibergs, Arturs Kulda, Oskars Cibulskis, Janis Jaks and Edgars Siksna.


Forwards - Rodrigo Abols, Miks Indrasis, Rihards Bukarts, Gints Meija, Oskars Batna, Emils
