The final concert of Latvia’s XXVI Nationwide Song and XVI Dance Celebration at the Mezaparks Open Air Stage last night drew a record-large audience of 67,253 people, the festival’s executive director Eva Juhnevica said in an interview with Latvian Television this morning, informs LETA.

As reported, around 16,500 choristers took part in the Song and Dance Celebration’s closing concert. Many of them stayed after the concert to participate in a sing-together event that continued at Mezaparks until dawn.

Juhnevica said that this year’s Song and Dance Celebration was organized by a team of some 500 people but that together with volunteers, partners, various services and others involved in the preparatory, organizational and security work their number might have reached an estimated 4,000.

The Song and Dance Celebration also drew strong media attention, with foreign journalists making up a large part of the 700 media accredited at the festival, Juhnevica said.

As reported, Latvia’s XXVI Nationwide Song and XVI Dance Celebration ended last night with 16,500 choristers performing the folk-song Blow Wind at the Mezaparks Open Air Stage.
