Latvia’s second-ranked tennis player Anastasija Sevastova won the opening-round match at the Australian Open on Tuesday and reached the Grand Slam tournament’s second round where she will play against Russia’s Maria Sharapova, informs LETA.

The 14th seeded Latvian beat U.S. athlete Varvara Lepchenko 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the opening-round match.

For the second round has earned Sevastova 70 WTA points. In the next round of the Australian Open, she will take on Sharapova who defeated Tatjana Maria of Germany 6-1, 6-4 in the first round.
