Latvian basketball club VEF Riga has completed its roster by signing a one-year agreement with the experienced bigman Rolands Freimanis on Tuesday, VEF Riga Director Laila Spalina told LETA.

The 29-year-old Freimanis also played for VEF Riga in the 2008/2009 season.

Freimanis said that he was grateful to VEF Riga management for giving him opportunity to play for the club again, and that he believed he would help VEF Riga achieve its goals in the new season.

Likewise, VEF Riga head coach Janis Gailitis is pleased that the club has signed such an experienced player. Freimanis is a very skilled and talented player, both offensively and defensively, said Gailitis.

Freimanis began his career playing for Latvian basketball clubs ASK Riga and VEF Riga, later joining Seville Cajasol, Italy's Sutor Montegranaro, Ukraine's Yuzhne Khimik, Tallinn Kalev/Cramo, Kazan Unics, Turkey's Usak Muratbey.

Freimanis has also played for Latvian national basketball team in four EuroBasket tournaments.

Four players remain on the VEF Riga roster from last season, when VEF Riga won Latvian Basketball Union championship: Mareks Mejeris, Arnolds Helmanis, Ilja Gromovs and Arnas Labuckas. The club has also signed Davis Rozitis, Kristaps Janicenoks, Mexican national team player Alex Perez, and U.S. player Antwan Scott.

In the new season's opening Latvian Basketball League match last week, VEF Riga unexpectedly lost to Ogre 80:85.
