Former national team head coach Aleksandrs Starkovs will return to the helm of the Latvian football team, the Latvian Football Federation has confirmed.
The 61-year-old Starkovs will replace Marians Pahars, who stepped down in March.
Starkovs was the head coach of the Latvian national team from 2001 to 2004. He coached the Latvian football team that historically qualified for the 2004 European Football Championships (EURO 2004).
He returned to coach the Latvian national team in 2007, but stepped down once again in 2013.
As reported, Pahars stepped down in March after disappointing performances in the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign, where Latvia has currently dropped to its lowest ever FIFA ranking - 124th.
