In a decisive EuroBasket qualifying game on Wednesday, Latvian women's national team defeated Slovenia 77:66 (19:21, 18:9, 21:15, 19:21) at home, qualifying for the final tournament for the seventh time in a row.

Latvia would have finished in first place in Group A had it won by 19 points or more, but yesterday's win was enough for the team to finish second in the group, qualifying for the 2017 European Women's Basketball Championship in the Czech Republic.

The experienced Gunta Basko-Melbarde was the highest scorer for Latvia last night with thirteen points, while Kristine Vitola scored twelve points and pulled down ten rebounds. Aija Putnina, Anete Steinberga and Elina Babkina scored eleven points each. Steinberga also had ten rebounds and Babkina seven assists.

Therefore, Slovenia has finished in first place in Group A with three wins in four games. Latvia is in second place, also with three wins in four matches, while Lithuania is in last place with zero wins.

The winners of the nine qualification groups and the six best second-placed finishers will qualify for EuroBasket 2017 in the Czech Republic.
