This year the contemporary cultural forum White Night will be on the night from September 10 to 11, the event's organizers told LETA.

The forum's program includes more than 30 art and cultural projects - concerts, installations and sculptures in the city's streets, exhibitions, multimedia projects, poetry competitions and readings, and film screenings.

The program will also be supplemented with more than 20 initiative projects that are organized with the help of theaters, schools, kindergartens, art galleries, cafes, art and cultural studios and other active Riga residents.

As usual, the forum will take place in the Riga center, Old Town, Spikeri Quarter and on the left bank of the river. In addition, Miera Street and its nearby quarters - from the Gaujas Street artist quarter, the Great Cemetery all the way to Brivibas Street - will be especially vibrant.

During the forum the Sculpture Quadrennial Riga will open, which will give the public opportunity to explore international developments in contemporary sculpture. During the quadrennial, artists of various countries will exhibit their work in the city environment and the Wagner Hall.

After a hiatus of several years, the White Night Tram will return. It will be an object of contemporary art, while serving as a means of transportation. The tram will travel from the city center to the furthest points of the event along the route Ausekla Street-Gaujas Street-Ausekla Street.

The White Night will take place in Riga for the 11th time and it is a part of the international project White Nights festival originally held in five European capitals - Brussels, Madrid, Paris, Riga and Rome. Currently the White Night and similar events are also held in Amsterdam, Bucharest, Porto, Valletta, Toronto, Tokyo, Montreal and other cities.
