Clocked at the finish at 2:38:01, Latvian long distance runner Ilona Marhele cleared the required time for participation in the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, by about four minutes. At the Frankfurt Marathon Sunday, she crossed in 15th place, about 15 minutes behind the winner from Ethiopia, informs LETA.

For the men, Janis Viskers failed to make the Olympic cut; finishing over three minutes behind the requirement.

The only other track and field athlete from Latvia so far to have qualified for the Rio Olympics is marathon runner Valerijs Zolnerovics, clocked at the Riga Marathon.
