Ozolina – 11th in javelin throw at Beijing Games

Latvia's Sinta Ozolina ended up 11th in javelin throw at Beijing Olympic Games today, informs LETA.

 

Ozolina's best result was 53.38 meters, and she did not qualify for the final.

 

As reported, Ozolina participated in qualifying round's group A and threw 60.13 meters already in her first attempt, setting a new record for Latvia. The previous Latvia's record in women's javelin throw – 59.97 meters, was set by Inga Kozarenoka in 2005.

 

Ozolina fouled her second try, but in her last throw she hit the 52.62 meters mark and stayed seventh in her group.

 

This was the first time that Ozolina participated in the Olympic Games. She qualified on July 21, 2007, winning the silver medal at the European Junior Championships and meeting the Olympic normative B – 57.01 meters.

 

The winner was today was Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic with a toss of 71.42 meters. Russia's Maria Abukumova took the silver medal with 70.78 and the bronze went to Germany"s Christina Obergfoll with 66.13.
