Latvian actress Kugrena among recipients of National theater awards

The Latvian Theater Union (Latvijas Teatra darbinieku savieniba, LTDS) announced today the three winners of its awards, named after legends of the Latvian performing arts, informs LETA.

 

Lasma Kugrena, a llongtime star of the National Theater with many superb portrayals under her belt, proved her greatness once again this season as Mrs. Alving in Ibsen's "Ghosts", and for this alone, LTDS has singled her out for the Lilita Berzina Award.

 

For an illustrious career at the Riga Russian Drama Theater. playing over 130 roles, and still going strong, LTDS found Leonids Lencs worthy of the Harijs Liepins Award.

 

Haralds Ritenbergs was principal dancer at the Latvian National Ballet in the 1950s and 60s; later his charm brought him fame as a movie star, but before retiring, he was a noted educator, instructor and dance coach. For a lifetime devoted to dance, Ritenbergs will be honored with the Helena Tangijeva-Birzniece Award.

 

As is tradition, the awards will be presented at a ceremony in the Theater Museum on International Theater Day, March 27.
