Next Monday, November 11, various events will take place in Riga to mark War Heroes Remembrance Day, also known as Lacplesis Day. Rigans and visitors will be able to participate in the traditional torch-lit procession, attend the revival of the rock opera "Lacplesis", various concerts and exhibitions in culture centers, museums and churches, LETA was informed by the Riga City Council.

The commemoration will get under way with an ecumenical religious service in Dome Cathedral at 9 a.m., which will be followed by a flower wreath-laying ceremony in Brethren Cemetery at 11 a.m.

The day will also feature the National Armed Forces and the Interior Ministry's units on parade past the Freedom Monument, and flower-laying at the foot of Colonel Oskars Kalpaks Monument.

The torch-lit procession from Brethren Cemetery all the way to the riverside drive in Old Town will be capped by a choral, folk music, etc. concert on Riflemen's Square, featuring the legendary "Ilgi". Not far from the square, a bonfire on a raft will be set afloat.

Latvia marks Lacplesis Day in memory of the fight for freedom from 1918 to 1920 and its multitude of heroic individuals.
