Lithuanian team ran 800 km in total in Brussels Marathon

On 6th of October Lithuanian Presidency team ran in the 10th Brussels marathon. Team of 135, including Lithuanians and their friends who support Lithuanian Presidency gathered in the Cinquantenaire park waiting for the Marathon's start, website eu2013 said, cites LETA/ELTA.

 

The start was given by the European Commissioner Algirdas Semeta, who was delighted to see that so many people got together to support Lithuania's Presidency. The Commissioner and runners who worn the Presidency T-shirts made a "family photo" at the start line.

 

All the "Run with Lithuanian Presidency" team included 57 men and 78 women. 22 of them were children, ranging in age from 3.5 to 12 years. Participants had an opportunity to run a full marathon (42.195 km), half Marathon (21.097 km), women's running (4 km) and mini-marathon (4 km). The fastest in the recent distance was Mindaugas Veromejus who reached the finish line in 15:54. Little runners overcame a distance of one kilometer in the park territory supported by parents.

 

Ambassador Arunas Vinciunas, Deputy Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the European Union who finished the distance of 4 km said: "I am extremely happy to see such as enthusiastic people who came this Sunday to support our team. If we counted the distance which was stormed by the Presidency runners today we would get more than 800 kilometers. Indeed, with such a spirit we will certainly complete the Presidency successfully."

 

Lithuanian Presidency team was running to raise money for a charity foundation "Algojimas". During the donation campaign were collected more than 4000 litas.

This Brussels marathon was ran for the 10th time. In these 10 years the number of participants has grown from about 3500 in 2004 up to 12500 last year. Approximately 14000 runners participated this year.
