The Directorate of Border Crossing Infrastructure on Wednesday signed a 30-month contract, worth 24.18 mln euros, with a consortium of Conresta, Kauno Tiltai and Euroelektronika, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said.
The border checkpoint would comply with all European Union’s requirements, Transport Minister Jaroslav Narkevic said adding that the crossing point would be able to handle up to 6,000 passenger cars and up to 2,000 trucks per day after the reconstruction.
The border checkpoint will not be closed during renovation but some vehicles will be able to cross the border through the checkpoints of Tverecius, Lavoriskes and Salcininkai.
