The exhibition "Art without a Roof" showcasing 100 works of art would last for three weeks, the local authority of Vilnius said in a press release.

The open-air exhibition is accompanied by an online gallery, Menasbestogo.lt, offering 353 works of art available for purchase.

The project has been described as a response to lockdown restrictions, which left artists unable to exhibit and sell their works during the quarantine due to the shutdown of art galleries.

The aim of the project is to encourage Vilniusites to take interest in art and to acquire works of art to support struggling artists.

“The lockdown … cannot stop creativity and the project "Art without a Roof" once again connects artists and art lovers who now have the whole of Vilnius, which has turned into a large gallery, as their meeting place. I am sure that this will stir the emotion, which you will not be able to find in any other city across the world,” the press release quoted Vilnius mayor Remigijus Simasius as saying.

All professional artists or the galleries representing them have been invited to participate in the project.

Some 500 works of art were offered for exhibition within the first four days from the publication of an open invitation for artists two weeks ago.
