Atran and Eleron cargo airlines increase operations in Riga

Russian and Ukrainian cargo airlines Atran and Eleron have increased flights on their regular routes to and from Riga Airport, LETA was told at the airport.

Ukrainian cargo airline Eleron, which this week performed its 100th flight from Lviv as part of its Northern Bridge cooperation project with airBaltic and Riga Airport, has increased the number of flights to five per week. 


Eleron flies Chinese e-commerce cargoes from Riga to Ukraine and delivers Nova Poshta and Latvijas Pasts mail from Ukraine to Riga. 


Eleron CEO Andri Kishinskyi said that Eleron plans to increase import and export deliveries between Riga and Lviv to 150 tons per month, using its AN-26 and Boeing-737 aircraft. 


Russian airline Atran also increased the number of flights from the city of Hangzhou in China to Riga Airport in May. As part of an e-commerce project of Cainiao Smart Logistics Network Limited and Latvijas Pasts, Atran performs five flights on the route with a Boeing 737-800BCF.


As reported, Riga International Airport handled over 27,000 tons of cargo in 2019, which is nearly 50 percent of all aviation cargo handled in the Baltics.
