At the National Health Service's request, Latvia's airBaltic carrier will bring around one million face masks and respirators from China, the airline's spokeswoman Alise Briede told LETA.
On March 28, airBaltic will perform a special flight to and from Urumqi International Airport in China, from Yiwu in Zhengzhou province, to bring around one million face masks and respirators to Latvia.
With the help of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, the airline has obtained all the necessary permits for the flight, including from China. The airBaltic flight is expected to land in Riga on Saturday night.
As reported, in an effort to prevent Covid-19 from spreading further in Latvia, a state of emergency came into force on March 13, setting a number of tough restrictions. The state of emergency is in force until April 14.
