Due to the spread of Covid-19, new restrictions will be introduced in Daugavpils and Kuldiga until mid-October: no more than 500 people will be allowed to attend indoor events, and no more than eight patrons will be allowed at one table at public catering institutions, the Cabinet of Ministers decided at an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday, LETA informed.

Health Minister Ilze Vinkele (For Development/For) explained that, after the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) registered a very high number of new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday - 95 - and a very rapid increase in new Covid-19 cases in Daugavpils and Kuldiga was observed, the Health Ministry insisted that new restrictions had to be introduced in both cities in order to limit the rapid spread of Covid-19 there.

According to the CDC data, the fourteen-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 residents has risen to 155 cases in Kuldiga and 72.6 cases in Daugavpils. In the meantime, the average cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 residents is 17.6 across Latvia. Hence the restrictions on gatherings and requirements for the use of masks, said the Health Ministry.

According to the government's decision today, all extracurricular activities, sports practices and rehearsals will be cancelled in Daugavpils and Kuldiga, passengers in public transport will have to wear masks, as well as people in places where it is not possible to stay two meters apart.

Public catering enterprises in Kuldiga and Daugavpils will not be allowed to open before 6 a.m. and close after 12 a.m.
