Thus, self-isolation is a mandatory requirement for travelers arriving in Latvia from all the neighboring countries.

So far self-isolation period had been 14 days, but since September 17 it has been reduced to ten days with some exceptions.

Considering increasing incidence, regular passenger transportation to the Czech Republic are also banned as of September 21.

The Latvian government has decided to allow air travel to countries with twice the average 14-day cumulative morbidity rate in the European Union (EU), while stipulating that self-isolation will be mandatory upon return from these countries. According to data released by the CDC, the 14-day cumulative morbidity rate in the EU is currently 76, bringing the threshold for a ban on transportation to and from Latvia to 152. The cumulative morbidity rate in the Czech Republic was 166.2 on Friday.

Air passenger transportation ban currently also refers to Spain, France and Andorra.

Based on the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the self-isolation requirement still applies to people arriving in Latvia from 28 EU and EEA countries and also through Monaco, Andorra and San Marino. The 28 EU and EEA countries include Estonia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Italy, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Germany, Romania, Spain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Malta, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Portugal, Iceland, France, Poland, Croatia, Austria, Denmark, the UK, Ireland, Greece, Norway and Hungary.

Self-isolation is not required for travelers returning from Australia, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, and Uruguay.

In Latvia, The self-isolation requirement does not apply to arrivals from countries where the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases does not exceed 16 per 100,000 population.

Latvia so far has second lowest Covid-19 incidence of all European countries where Covid-19 has been registered - 4.4 cases per 100,000 residents. In Lithuania it is 18.8 cases and in Estonia - 25.4.

The highest Covid-19 incidence over 100 cases per 100,000 residents has been registered in Andorra, Spain and France. Also, the Czech Republic, Monaco, Luxembourg and Malta have over 100 cases per 100,000 residents.
