The previous deadline for submissions was set for August 19, but it was later extended to August 26. The directorate has now decided to amend the tender's regulations by extending the deadline until September 18. The amendments list updated technical specifications, hence the deadline had to be extended, the Road Traffic Safety Directorate informed LETA.
Several companies have shown interest in the tender, yet no official offers have been received so far.
Regardless of the fact the tender is not over yet, the Road Traffic Safety Directorate hopes that the first speed cameras will become operational already this year, CEO of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate, Janis Golubevs said earlier this month. He said that the directorate has received numerous complaints about the tender, nevertheless, the directorate hopes that the new speed cameras project will be implemented already this year.
The procurement consists of two parts: the state is planning to buy 16 stationary speed cameras with a Doppler radar and four speed cameras with a laser scanner.
The Doppler radar is based on Doppler's effect, using a digital photo camera to record the velocity of an object and save a snapshot. The system is equipped with an integrated flashlight that can be used during the day and night, and is synchronized with the photo camera.
The laser scanner, on the other hand, is based on laser technology, using a digital photo camera to record the velocity of an object and save a snapshot. This system is also equipped with an integrated flashlight that can be used during the day and nighttime hours, and is synchronized with the photo camera.
The tender's regulations stipulate that the candidates must assure that the devices are constantly operational and provide 24/7 service.
The Road Traffic Safety Directorate will monitor the devices and hire a security company to ensure their safety. The Road Traffic Safety Directorate will also insure the devices against vandalism.
