Informative posters on the establishment of road tolls are currently placed on all main roads in Latvia, as well as in Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja ports, the Ministry of Transport informed the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

Latvijas Valsts Celi is the institution responsible for setting up informative road signs about the necessity of road tolls in the territory of Latvia.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport has sent out informative letters to transport ministries in 47 countries that signed bilateral agreements on motortraffic, indicating that starting July 1, cargo transports that weigh more than 3.5 tons, will require a vignette.

On June 27, 191 tolls were paid using the lvvignete.eu service, but 65 – at Road Traffic Safety Directorate departments. The total amount of tolls paid exceeded EUR 60,000. Latvian and Estonian carriers were among the most active buyers, followed by Lithuanians, Finns and Poles. Data from today indicates that the total amount of tolls purchased at lvvignete.eu and Road Traffic Safety Directorate departments, has reached EUR 150,000.

When asked whether extra charges will be imposed on Eurovignettes at gas stations, the Ministry of Transport indicated that the regulations do not stipulate the amount of extra charges. "However, it is clear that each merchant has their own costs when providing specific services. Considering the fact that tolls can be paid using services provided by various merchants, the price will be affected according to market principles and business competition," the ministry explained.
