The Ministry of Environment of Lithuania will introduce effective and modern measures in order to ensure effectiveness of state environmental protection control, optimize the use of technical resources and prevent misuse, informs LETA/ELTA.

GPS/GSM systems will be installed in all vehicles of environmental protection inspectors. By late 2014 the systems will also be installed in vehicles of organizations under the Ministry of Environment.

According to Minister of Environment Valentinas Mazuronis, the decision will enable more effective use of service cars.

"Modern equipment allows to react to calls more promptly and use resources more economically. The system will be installed already this year in vehicles of agencies under the ministry," Mazuronis said.

The installed control system enables to see routes the vehicles are taking. The system is also producing reports with the date related to the journey -route, distance, average and top speed etc. The data is kept in the system for at least 12 months.

The Ministry of Environment will be the first in Lithuania to have GPS/GSM system installed in all vehicles. The ministry has around 1,300 cars.
