BC, Vilnius, 05.08.2013.Print version
On Monday Lithuanian aviation company Air Lituanica will launch the third direct regular route, this time to Berlin Tegel Airport, reported LETA/ELTA.

During the first month of operation the company successfully conducted 98 flights. A total of 7,448 seats were offered in direct flights to Brussels and Amsterdam.

Air Lituanica Chief Commercial Officer Simonas Bartkus says that the results of the first month are positive, while the sales of higher class more expensive tickets exceeded expectations.

"We understood that the market needed a higher quality product, passengers flying on business choose Flexi type tickets frequently, allowing to change departure date and receive business class service in flight," said Bartkus.

The company has noticed the interest in connecting flights too. Most popular connections are via Armsterdam to Paris, London, Marseille and even New York. It is estimated that the most connecting flights will be to the cities of Spain, Great Britain and France.

In the first month of operations Air Lituanica airplanes saw 220 hours of flight. 58 percent of passengers were travelling to Vilnius, 42 percent from Vilnius. Average passenger load was 65 percent. Taking into account ticket booking flows this indicator is estimated to rise to 70 percent in autumn.

The route to Berlin will be serviced by Embraer 170 airplane on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Air Lituanica conducts daily flights to Brussels, with an exception on Saturdays. Flights to Amsterdam are also daily. The company is planning to launch route to Munich and Prague in autumn.

By 2015 Air Lituanica will have 13-16 routes and transport 500,000-600,000 passengers per year. 1500 jobs will be created by the company's activity.

Vilnius city municipality company UAB Start Vilnius controls most of UAB Air Lituanica shares, the remaining 17 percent are controlled by UAB Air Lituanica Club.
