Palmer doesn’t rule out merger between Estonian Air and Air Lithuanica

BC, Tallinn, 18.07.2013.Print version
In June, Estonian Air once again earned a profit over a long period of time, due to the fact that Air Lithuanica started leasing from it its Embraer-type passenger plane that was thus far grounded in a hangar, writes LETA/National Broadcasting.

Air Lithuanica leases the Embraer 170 aircraft from Estonian national carrier together with the flight crew. The first flight took place on June 30, from Vilnius to Brussels.

Air Lithuanica also uses Estonian Air’s ticket sales channels and partnership agreements with other airlines.

CEO of Estonian Air Jan Palmer stated that co-operation with the Lithuanian enterprise is very close and the aircraft lease contract is beneficial for both parties.

“Keeping a modern aircraft on the ground is very costly, and thus we have to make them earn revenue. This is very important. For the first time in years, Estonian Air showed positive results in June and this means that from now on, we are using our resources very efficiently,” said Palmer.

CFO of Air Lithuanica Simonas Bartkus stated that their enterprise is planning to continue co-operation with Estonian Air.

According to Palmer, Air Lithuanica and Estonian Air are not yet making any plans for a merger, but will not rule out the possibility for the future.
