The Estonian state-owned Kredex foundation announced that it will launch electric cars speed rental service in Tallinn and Tartu in summer 2013, in the framework of the electric mobility programme (ELMO), LETA/Postimees Online reports.
Head of the ELMO programme Jarmo Tuisk said that the main aim of the service is to offer all people a simple chance of driving an electric car.
"We wish to support wider use of electric cars and bring more electric cars to the streets," he said.
24 electric cars will be available in Tallinn and Tartu by the end of June, 18 Nissan Leaf and 6 Mitsubishi iMiEV cars.
To use the rental service, one has to conclude a usage contract at ELMO page and then can open the doors using a smartphone or ordinary cell phone.
Similar electric car speed rental services operate among others in Paris, Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
