"The tender was announced by the previous government. As we reviewed the balances of the European Union's aid, we saw that the Conservatives and the Liberals had failed to absorb the projected funds of over LTL 1 billion (EUR 290 million). Therefore, we have decided to obtain civic-purpose helicopters from particular programmes' funding," the PM said Wednesday after the Cabinet meeting.
According to Butkevicius, a part of funding will be re-allocated from the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of the Science and Education.
Finance Minister Rimantas Sadzius in his turn has claimed that it would be irrational not to absorb the EU funds and return them back.
The Government is planning to re-allocate LTL 170 million (EUR 49 million) from the EU aid which we left unused. The finance minister said that the re-allocation will cover five ministries.
