Zagars received the award for popularizing latvian culture abroad, innovative business solutions and successful work at the National Opera for twelve years, informs LETA.
Spidola Awards are bestowed for promoting initiatives and free market relations in Latvia's economy though creating new market economy institutions and improving the activity of the existing ones, ensuring and boosting competition in a definite market sector and in economy in general though bringing in new products and services into the market, as well as increasing individual's economic freedom of choice by raising level of education, knowledge and skills.
Other nominees for the award this year were the now-former Parex banka President Valerijs Kargins and owner of the bakery Laci, Normunds Skaugis.
Winners of Spidola Award in previous years have been Einars Repse, Andris Skele, Bertolt Martin Flick, Ingrida Bluma and Vaira Vike-Freiberga.
Latvian Economists Association 2010 was founded in 1994 with the purpose to develop economic thought and long term economy development in Latvia. It unites well-known economists in Latvia – Aina Bataraga, Martins Bondars, Dairis Calitis, Juris Cebulis, Eizens Cepurnieks, Karlis Cerbulis, Inguna Dobraja, Kaspars Gerhards, Andris Liepins, Pauls Dzintars Kalnins, Ojars Kehris, Aleksandrs Kirsteins, Edmunds Krastins, Uldis Krikis, Uldis Osis, Ilmars Rimsevics, Arvils Sautins, Inna Steinbuka, Juris Viksnins, Uldis Vitolins, Roberts Zile and has one associated member Peteris Strautins.
