Estonian Border Guard received an anti-pollution vessel, the Estonian national broadcasting says.

The vessel has been received at Süsta Street harbor in Tallinn on Friday, informs LETA.

At a ceremony at the border guard facility, Estonia's first lady Evelin Ilves named the new flagship after General Ants Kurvits, a commander of the border patrol who served during the first Republic of Estonia.

The European Regional Development Fund provided 28 million euros and the Estonian government – five million euros in co-funding to purchase the 63.9-meter-long vessel.

Estonian Interior Minister Ken-Marti Vaher, who oversees the Border Guard, said the new ship will ease a lack of resources for cleaning up marine pollution and improve marine rescue capacity.

The ship was built by Finland's Uudenkaupungin Työvene.
