National airline airBaltic CEO Martin Gauss says in an interview with the "Klubs" magazine that he was surprised to see that all members of the Latvian government had understood his speech when he was presenting a report on airBaltic development opportunities, and he was also very pleased with minister's great resolve and active involvement in tackling the airline's problems.

Martin Gauss.

The government is very active and very dedicated to what it does, says Gauss. "Also the fact that the premier introduced me to the other Cabinet members in English, that all the questions asked by ministers were in English, and that no interpretation was necessary was impressive. All the Cabinet members speak English – that is not something you see often in Europe", informs LETA.

The ministers had asked Gauss competent questions, and Gauss observed that the government was made up of "rather young people".

Commenting the presentation of the airBaltic plan to the government, Gauss says: "I am a German, and I have spent ninety days here. It was a great honor for me to be speaking before the Cabinet of Ministers and the premier. Something like that could have never happened in Germany. I have to admit that this was one of the most emotional moments in my professional career."

As reported, Gauss was appointed airBaltic CEO on October 21 last year, succeeding Bertolt Flick who had stepped down on October 4.

Before that, Gauss worked at the head of Hungarian airline Malev, which recently went bankrupt.
