Print versionEven though Latvian and Russian border guards are dedicating all their efforts and using the maximum infrastructure capacity, the "traditional" Christmas truck lines on the Latvia-Russia border are still long. Around 1,000 trucks are currently waiting in line to cross the border.

Transport Minister Aivis Ronis told reporters yesterday that EU-Russia trade volume has increased and with it the amount of cargo transported across the border. This is usually felt the most before Christmas, informs LETA.
Russian Ambassador to Latvia Alexander Veshnyakov admitted that, at the moment, the amount of cargo has peaked on both sides of the border. The sides are doing everything possible to settle all formalities and deliver the cargo to Russia. The border guards are working non-stop. It is predicted that the truck lines will shrink in two to three days and only several dozen trucks will be waiting to cross the border around New Year.
