This morning, at 6 a.m., a train collided with a log truck in Kegums (central Latvia). As a result, train traffic will be suspended in both directions at least until midday, LETA was informed by the state-owned joint-stock railroad company Latvijas Dzelzcels (LDz).

The state-owned road maintenance company Latvijas Valsts celi (LVC) informs that, due to the accident, the traffic on Kegums-Sigulda-Inciems highway is closed.

Currently there is no information about anyone injured.

LDz urges passengers to choose different means of public transportation, since the train traffic will be significantly delayed, writes LETA.

International trains from Moscow and St. Petersburg will arrive with a 30-minute delay, since they will be re-routed through Jelgava (central Latvia).

It was dark when the accident happened. The train's headlight lights up only 200 meters. The driver of the log-truck did not observe the traffic regulations, since he was supposed to warn the train about the truck on the crossing. Instead, he just left the scene, as spokesperson for the joint-stock company Pasazieru vilciens (Passenger Train), Andrejs Filipovs, said in an interview with LNT morning show "900 sekundes" today.

The log-truck, which was involved in the accident, belongs to the joint stock company "Stiga RM", as the company's logistics manager Martins Ramolins confirmed the business information portal Nozare.lv.

Ramolins pointed out that the log-truck was insured, but did not reveal the exact amount of money.
