Besides these trucks, a few dozen more are parked in Riga center that might also join the protest, writes LETA.
As reported, several transport associations have planned protests today against the government's intention to drastically reduce budget spending on the transport sector, and a large number of buses will not run in regions today.
Also, more than 100 people will gather in front of the Riga Castle today to protest against the new electricity tariffs from the joint stock power utility Latvenergo and submit their petition to President Valdis Zatlers. The protesters will then proceed to the Saeima building.
The number of trucks participating in a protest at the Riga Castle has increased significantly, impeding traffic and creating traffic jams on the Daugava Embankment, LETA observed.
The number of trucks that slowly drive past the Riga Castle in both directions of 11.novembra krastmala Street at speeds not exceeding 20 kilometers per hour has increased to over 50 by now.
Most trucks participating in the protest are flatbed trucks, many of them are loaded with timber.
As a result, there is significant congestion on the Daugava Embankment at the moment.
One of the trucks carries a placard that says "For Good Roads!"
Several dozen passersby observe the protest from Vansu Bridge and sidewalks along the Daugava Embankment.
