Several European Parliament members sent a public statement to the Estonian Reform Party and Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (PRU) that are holding coalition talks, calling them to pay attention to the future of Rail Baltica, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

The European Parliament members think that there should be a separate provision about Rail Baltica in the coalition agreement on the future development and timeframe of the project and the new Estonian government should be the one to take intuitive of the project. According to Äripäev Online, the statement was signed by Zigmantas Balcytis, Tunne Kelam, Bogusùaw Liberadzki, Kristiina Ojuland, Siiri Oviir, Ivari Padar, Vilja Savisaar-Toomast and Indrek Tarand.

Prime Minister Andrus Ansip said that it is likely that the Rail Baltica project would be mentioned in the coalition agreement, informs LETA.

“By the end of this year, it will be possible to travel at the speed of 120 km on the whole Rail Baltica section in Estonia, i.e. from Tallinn via Tartu to Valga. That means that technically we have given or contribution. Latvians have also made investments and I can claim that starting next year, it should be possible to travel to Riga at 120 km an hour,” said Ansip.
