Violations of the rules while driving, such as ignorance of traffic signs, parking on the sidewalk, using a hand-held mobile phone while driving, making u-turns at pedestrian crossings, tunnels, on bridges and overpasses, or breaking the rules on transport of people will cost to drivers up to 100-300 litas instead of previously imposed 50-100 litas.
Fines for other traffic offences, that is, failure to give way to other drivers and forbidden or unsafe overtaking, have also been increased.
In addition to increased fines, it was also decided that offenders not willing or able to pay their fines can be sentences to up to 400 hours of community service. At the same time, according to a decision made by Seimas a few weeks ago, if an offender agrees to pay the fine without taking the matter to the court the fine gets reduced by 50%.
