Cargo turnover at Klaipeda port grew by 11.6% in January – September

22,5 million tons of cargo in total, i.e. more by 11.6% or by 2,3 million tons than during the corresponding period of 2009, were handled in Klaipėda Port in January – September of 2010, informed BC marketing department of the port.

The largest increase according to volumes during nine month of this year comparing with the corresponding period of 2009 was reached due to increased handling volumes of natural and chemical fertilizers (+1 575,3 thousand tons), Ro-Ro cargo  848,1 thousand tons), containerized cargo (+588,2 thousand tons), minerals and construction materials (+304,7 thousand tons).   

 

In total 2 459,1 thousand tons were handled in Klaipėda Port in September of 2010 , this is more by 7,4% than in September of the previous year.

In terms of cargo groups the handling of general cargo and dry and bulk cargo increased (general cargo +27,2%, bulk and dry cargo +13,3%) and the handling of liquid cargo decreased by –15,2%. 

 

The number of Ro-Ro cargo units in September of 2010 was 20 662, i.e. more by 38,2% or by 5 709 units than during the corresponding period of 2009. Container turnover, estimated in TEU, increased by 32,3% up to 25 560 TEU, the increase made 6 245 TEU.

 

In September 28,6 thousand passengers, i.e. less by 5% if to compare with the same period of 2009, visited Klaipeda. 2,7 thousand passengers came on board of cruise ships, i.e. less by 55,3% than in September of 2009. 

 

899,9 thousand tons of cargo, i.e. more by 28,5% than in September of 2009, was transhipped in Būtingės Terminal in September of 2010.
